Indianapolis airport faces many terminal fixes

More by this author

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Officials say the new Indianapolis International Airport terminal has undergone more than $2.5 million in repairs since it opened because of decisions that may have put architectural appearance ahead of functionality.

The flaws range from water leaking down elevator shafts to the new parking garage atrium canopy collapsing after a severe winter storm in February. The Indianapolis Business Journal reports that repairs to the elevator shafts have cost $48,000, and the garage canopy has not been repaired yet.

The airport has had 20 repair projects since the terminal opened November 2008, and most of the money has come from funds left over from the $1 billion terminal project. Taxpayer money accounts for a small portion of improvement spending.
