Chreece brings the culture back to Fountain Square

More by this author

Mark your calendars for Aug. 24 as the Chreece Hip-Hop Festival makes its return.

This year’s event promises to be bigger and better than ever, showcasing the vibrant culture and diverse artistry of the genre.

Held in Indianapolis’ historic Fountain Square neighborhood, Chreece isn’t the typical music festival; it’s a full-fledged cultural takeover with more than 70 local and national hip-hop and R&B artists, DJs and producers gracing the stages across seven unique venues.

Congressman Andre Carson is thankful for what Chreece brings to, as well as out of, the community.

ā€œChreece Festival has been at the pinnacle of Black culture, creativity, ingenuity and artistry,” Carson said in a statement. “It is a way to highlight Indianapolisā€™ growing creative community.”

Leading the charge are headliners Curren$y and Dem Franchize Boyz. Curren$y has carved a space for himself in the underground scene, collaborating with industry giants like Wiz Khalifa and Gary, Indiana native Freddie Gibbs.

Dem Franchize Boyz, the iconic collective from Atlanta, will bring their pioneering snap music to the stage, providing everyone with the influence that was a cornerstone in Southern hip-hop during the 2000s.

The 2024 Chreece festival also boasts a diverse lineup of local talent, offering a platform for up-and-coming artists from the region like Chicago’s Leo W3st and Indianapolis’ Kiana Flowers and Pope Adrian Bless.

Beyond the music, Chreece offers a full day of immersive experiences. There will be art installations celebrating hip-hop culture, delicious food and local vendors selling their merch.

The festival is a great opportunity to discover new artists, connect with the Indianapolis creative community and immerse yourself in the energy of hip-hop.

Carson saluted festival founder Oreo Jones for his unwavering commitment.

“We thank them,” Carson said in a statement. “As a former artist, Iā€™m always honored to participate and show love to a remarkable Hoosier staple.”
