Educators of color to introduce five-year plan for equity in education

The Indiana City-wide Coalition on Educational Equity (ICOEE) will host the City-Wide Round-up of Educational Leaders.

The event will kick off with a networking reception from 4:30-7 p.m. on Nov. 8. The conference will be from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 9. Both events will take place at The Broadmoor Country Club in Indianapolis.

70 years after Brown v. Board of Education, the National Council on Educational Equity has developed a seven-step blueprint which will be the focus of the conference.

At the educator roundup, the ICOEE will introduce the blueprint and work with stakeholders to create a five-year plan for achieving educational equity in Indianapolis. The five-year plan will address legislation, policies, state testing results, research and data analysis.

“According to state statistics, our students of color have the highest percentage of absenteeism and the lowest standardized test scores,” said Diana Daniels, executive director of the Indiana Council of Educating Students of Color. “As a community, we must come together to understand why this is true and plot a course to reverse these and other unhealthy trends that continue to keep Brown’s promise unmet.”
