The Indiana Department of Environmental Management announced the nominations for the 2025 Governor’s Awards for Environmental Excellence are open.
This year will mark the 32nd anniversary of celebrating innovative projects with measurable environmental benefits.
This year, one award in each of the following categories will be presented:
- Energy efficiency/renewable resources
- Environmental education/outreach
- Five-year continuous improvement
- Greening the government
- Land use/conservation
- Pollution prevention
- Recycling/reuse
The Greening the government category will shine a light on communities or governmental agencies that are making significant strides towards building greener, more environmentally sustainable efforts in work or across communities. Criteria was recently updated to allow a wide array of state, county and local governments to have their programs recognized.

Citizens, governmental agencies, businesses, organizations and educational institutions are invited to submit nominations on behalf of others. Self-nominations are encouraged. Eligible projects must have occurred in Indiana and been implemented in 2023 or 2024.
The deadline for nominations is March 7, and the awards ceremony will follow in September. Nominations will be reviewed by a panel of conservation, environmental and academic professionals. Awards will be based on innovation, measurable results and transferability.
