Movie lovers in Indianapolis are about to get a blockbuster experience like no other, as the acclaimed Alamo Drafthouse Cinema prepares to open its doors in the city. Known for its eclectic programming, strict no-talking policy and gourmet food offerings, the theater is set to shake up the local movie-going scene.

Set to debut near the Lafayette Square Mall in the former location of the Georgetown Cinema 14, Alamo Drafthouse features state-of-the-art screens, creative film events and an in-theater dining menu curated to elevate your popcorn-and-soda routine.

“It’s overdue in the making,” said Carlos Robles, general manager. “We’ve worked really hard to get this location ready for you and show off what are we capable of getting together.”

Alamo Drafthouse originated in Austin, Texas in 1997 and the location in Indy will be characterized by the same spirit — a place for movie lovers to unite. Alamo Drafthouse Cinema features reclining seats, a Hot Rod bar, VIP screenings and an Indy Car simulator in the lobby.

“It’s a sensory overload with all the stuff that we have (in the lobby),” Robles said. “From Mario Kart Racer to our amazing (Indy Car) simulator to our Hot Rod Lounge.”

The seats in each theatre recline and have heated functions for ultimate coziness. The theatre has 13 screens with 727 seats in total. All seating is assigned, and full food and drink menus are offered.

“The seats are fully reclining seats. Very cushiony,” Robles said. “They’re all heated seats. Our sound is Dolby surround sound. Plus, we have the best projectors in the Midwest. They’re all laser projectors.”

Guests are expected to arrive early for their showing for ample time to browse the menus at their seats and place their orders with the servers, who are trained to be silent and crouch down during the showings to keep the experience good for all guests.

“All our servers are going to crouch down. They’re all ninjas,” Robles said. “They have to dress in black from head to toe. Otherwise, it interrupts your experience.”

In addition to new movies, Alamo will also host interactive parties, events, sensory hours and $7 all-day ticket deals.

“If you want to have your kids grow up loving cinema and film, we have events set up for them,” said Bridget Garraway, senior national events manager for Alamo Drafthouse Cinema. “There will be interactive props with family parties. There are also crafts that you can do.”
