New initiative hopes to ‘upskill’ Black community

Optimist Business Solutions LLC announced a new initiative through Purdue University Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP).

The Six Sigma Green Belt Training Initiative will provide the Indianapolis Black community, specifically Black women, with leadership skills to solve complex community and workforce issues within the community.

Twelve women will participate in the inaugural program with training provided by the Green Belt Body of Knowledge.

Joy Mason, president and founder of Optimist Business Solutions, wanted to create the program as part as her pledge to be a force toward racial equity. Sponsors for the program include Cummins, Central Indiana Community Foundation, Engaging Solutions, the Indianapolis Recorder, Black Onyx Management, Indianapolis Neighborhood Housing Partnership and Innopower.
